Is there only one type of RSS bar code?
There are 3 types of RSS:

  • RSS-14
  • RSS Limited
  • RSS Expanded

What is the Composite Component portion of the RSS bar code that Bedford has on its label?
It is a 2-D symbol (micro pdf) and is not a stand-alone symbology.

Are all Bedford products bar coded with the RSS-14 stacked composite?
Yes

Below is an example of the Bedford Laboratories RSS bar coded label:

  • RSS-14 Stacked Composite Bar Code
  • Top portion of the bar code is the composite portion (micro pdf), which contains
    the lot # and expiration date
  • Bottom portion (RSS-14 stacked) contains the NDC #

Which systems can read the data in the RSS bar code?
The following systems can read RSS bar codes:

  • AdminRx 7.6 (McKesson)
  • PaRx 8100 (Pyxis)
  • Med Administration Check (Siemens)
  • Med Select (AutoMed)

Which systems can not read the RSS bar codes?
The following systems may not scan/read the RSS bar code**:

  • Pharmacy Central (Omnicell)
  • PaRx 3100 (Pyxis)
  • MedPoint (Bridge Medical)

* Can only read the RSS portion of the bar code (the bottom portion).
